University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), also known as Beijing University of Science and Technology, is a multi-disciplinary research university directly under the Ministry of Education, located in Beijing. In 1952, Beijing University of Science and Technology was established by the mining and metallurgy departments of six well-known domestic universities, including Tianjin University (formerly Beiyang University) and Tsinghua University, and was named Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Industry. In 1960, it was renamed Beijing Iron and Steel Institute and approved as a national key higher education institution. In 1984, it became one of the first universities in China to officially establish graduate schools. In 1988, it was renamed as Beijing University of Science and Technology. In May 1997, the school was among the first batch of universities to be included in the national "211 Project" construction. In 2006, the school became one of the first universities to build an innovative platform for advantageous disciplines under the "985 Project". In 2017, the school was selected as a national "Double First Class" construction university. In 2018, the school was approved to be jointly built by the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau and the Ministry of Education. In December 2024, Beijing University of Science and Technology established the Group Development Research Institute.
